Yep, you need it. You cracked your spacer when you over-tightened it, or maybe you broke it when you were trying to scrape the old gaskets off. Maybe you dropped it. Hey, I’m not here to judge.

Either way, replace the broken stuff. It’ll keep it from leaking oil at the fuel pump and it’ll help keep some of the heat transfer from the cylinder head.
