***sorry, this will not interchange to your 1984-1988 22RE, the mounting is totally different. I don’t have a solution for you the early stuff. Yet.

this diaphragm is installed on your throttle body to keep the throttle from slamming shut when you abruptly left off the pedal. Keeps the engine from backfiring since it slows down the closure of the throttle plate at the last few millimeters to keep the a/f mixture correct.

If yours is crusty and malfunctioning (not allowing the throttle plate to fully close or letting it slam shut) it’s that time!
