This is the little guy that lives in your bell housing that the clutch release fork pivots on. Since it is a metal-on-metal contact and comes into play EVERY TIME you push in / left off that clutch pedal, it does wear out eventually.
Recommended replace along with the throw out bearing fork since one wears out the other.
